I was curious as to what ASI Way was all about. I thought I knew what life was all about. I worked as a social worker, raised a family, lived with an alcoholic husband, and myself had a university degree ~ I thought I knew what life was all about ~
As a survivor of the residential school, I really knew very little about life.
Since taking this class, I've learned that I was unsure of myself and my surroundings, about people in general.
The changes I undergone is fantastic - I am no longer afraid of my past. I learned to forgive the residential school teachers and staff, who gave me a rough time.
I had learned to hate authority, I never listened to my superiors, never really listened to my children. I realized I was controlling, was unable to express my love, unable to love unconditionally.
The only thing that interested me was having my children reach adulthood, then go on their own. I was guilty for not giving them sound values, not teaching them to change into a good lifestyle. My children left home unappreciated.
Some of them later reminded me of how abusive I was to them. This was very hard to hear. My grandchildren deserve a good future.
This is why I kept attending Asi Way classes so that I can relate to them differently. The change in my life is different now, I'm not so angry anymore, not afraid of the future. I realize that the teaching of the Asi Way has to be included if we are to be healed.
In order to heal, one must be kind, tolerant, trusting, loving and being positive. I've developed confidence, kindness, loving unconditionally and I'm aware of people, aware that we can make a difference on our community. I'm proud to be affiliated with Asi Way Domestic Violence Intervention Training.
I'm thankful to be able to help those who need help, health wise or otherwise. Thank you for this program and most of all for the healing. I was able to let go of my past hurts that I suffered for years. Only a person who has suffered can understand why our youth and children require help given by their own community.
My life is good.
